So I'm guessing it's not sending anything that Reaper will recognise as a start command ?Īnd if I use Reaper as master this sort of works but you can see the tempo on the ATARI constantly changing BPM (by as much as -/+ 10bpm) and the notes recorded in Reaper are drifting. The ATARI should be sending MIDI clock but when I set Reaper to external sync and hit record it doesn't start recording when I press "Play" on the ATARI. This is definitely my preferred option as that way I get 4 MIDI tracks in Reaper which can then be exploded by channel so each Creator track ends up on a seperate Reaper track.

Plus I have some projects that use more than 16 tracks ! (I had a couple of multimbral synths "back in the day")Īs I say I have also tried transferring the MIDI live. I suppose I *could* faff around and change the channels in Creator to make them unique but this would be a *lot* of work (I'd have to change every pattern in every song). So the problem is that when I expand the ATARI MIDI file multiple ATARI tracks are expanded to a single Reaper track as the notes are all on the same channel as they're no longer separated by port (all quite logical) I've not dug into the MIDI files yet so this might even be the ATARI export merging tracks. Drum note mapping was consistent across all drum machines. Port A used to drive a drum machine on channel 10, Port B drove a different dum machine on channel 10. But this doesn't work as I use all 4 outputs on the ATARI (I have the 3 port MIDI expander) and there are tracks that are on a different ports but use the same MIDI channel.Į.g. I've been too busy to return to the forum since I posted (My mother is ill so her needs take precedence over my tinkering).īut I have already tried saving the Creator files as MIDI and transferring via virtual floppy images on a USB stick. So when that arrives I'm hoping I might be able to get Reaper to sync to incoming SMPTE ?įirstly thanks for the replies and apologies for my late reply. I've (literally) just bought a C-Lab Unitor off ebay.

Sadly I can't re-record the tracks as about half of the gear I used to used is currently sitting about awaitig repair.Įxample track here if youv'e got nowt better to do What spurred all this is I've recently had some interest in releasing a collection of old electronic/acid/techno stuff I did back in the 1990s so I'd really like to recover the MIDI so I can also have a go at doing some remixes (and generally just having a play with the old tunes using VSTs etc.

If anyone can spare any tips I'm all ears ! So I really do think I'm simply missing something obvious
#Cubase atari mac emulator manuals
Now many years ago I used to work with a chap who had Cubase on his ST and we'd quite often MIDI sync our two ATARIs without a problem (rock solid actually !).Īs I'm pretty sure Reaper's syncing capabilities muse be better than the, now over 30 year old, Creator software I'm guessing I'm missing something really obvious ?Īnd I have read both manuals - I even had to get a pair of step ladders out to get to my old Creator manual. When I start Reaper recording this sort of works but I can see the tempo on the Atari jumping about wildly (by as much as 10 bpm either side of the actual tempo) and the MIDI notes recorded in Reaper are really "sloppy" and the whole thing goes out of time (drifts) as the song progresses. I then tried setting Reaper as master, the Atari to external MIDI sync and both machines to the same BPM. Tried all sorts of settings and the ATARI is definitiely sending MIDI clock ! I then set Reaper to external sync but when I start the ATARI Reaper just sits with the "waiting for timecode" message and it never starts recording. I first tried using the Atari as the master as it outputs MIDI clock and SPP. I've been searching the forum/web, and experimenting, since last Thursday but sadly without success.

To this end I bought an ESI M4Uex MIDI interface (8 ports which can be either ins or outs) as I also have the C-Lab 3 port MIDI expander and used to make full use of outputs/channels ! So I'm now trying to transfer a lot of old Creator songs (so MIDI data only) over to Reaper. Superb bit of kit which has breathed new life into the old beast ad made me remember what a wonderful bit of software C-Lab Creator was (is !). I've recently resurrected my trusty old Atari 1040 by replacing the (failing) floppy with a Gotek floppy emulator.
